Tyre Tread Depth
Tyres are one of the most important components of a vehicle as they are the only parts that come into contact with the road surface.
Legislation states that the tyre tread legal limit is a minimum of 1.6mm of useable tread across 3/4 of the tread area. However major tyre manufacturer Continental recommends that tyres are replaced at 3.0mm rather than 1.6 mm as 3.0mm.
Why a tyre tread depth of 3.0mm?
It stands to reason that the more tread a tyre has the more grip the tyre will have, especially in the wet.
Extensive independent tests have consistently proven that 3.0mm is the depth at which a tyres performance drops of dramatically.
